Fr. Duy Henry Bui Nguyen, SCJ
Hi, nice to meet you, I am Deacon Henry Nguyen, SCJ. I have been assigned to serve at St. Martin of Tours as a deacon. I was recently ordained to the diaconate on May 7, 2022 at our seminary and monastery in Franklin, WI. A day prior to my ordination, I graduated from Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology with a Master of Divinity. God willing, I will be ordained a priest at the end of this year in my hometown in California.
I was born and raised in Orange County, California. Prior to religious life, I earned my bachelor's degree in Psychology and worked for an insurance community for five years as an intern, claims representative, and lastly, a sales and marketing trainer. My religious vocation was and is fostered by the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement (TNTT). It was because of them I went to St. Martin of Tours in 2009 for a conference. I believe it's providential my first assignment takes me back to where I first encountered the Dehonians. Although this is my first official assignment, I am not totally new at St. Martin, I have been involved with the Vietnamese speaking community since 2017 with TNTT, and more recently, my preaching practicum took place at St. Martin where I gave reflections during mass for feedback.
I professed my first vows with the Dehonians on August 15, 2018 and made my perpetual profession earlier this year in January. I turned 33 in February. My pastoral and ministerial experiences include: CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) program in San Antonio with CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System, pastoral year between Sacred Heart Southern Missions in Mississippi and our mission community of SCJs in Ecuador where I spent time with youth, the poor, and men in prison.
I am excited as God has called me towards a life of service. I am excited to put into practice all I have learned these past seven years. I am excited to share the Good News of the Lord with all. Even with all of this excitement, I ask for your prayers, to pray for me, so I truly be a prophet of love.
